What is the law?

The Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) came into effect in the United States (US) after it was signed into law in December 2021. The legislation recognises the inherent challenges faced by traditional audits and similar due diligence efforts in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China (XUAR) due to well-documented concerns regarding widespread human rights abuses such as arbitrary detention and forced labour of Uyghurs and other Turkic Muslim peoples.
